Can I Prevent Cancer? It's Likely.

It's likely that every day we make cancer cells. Fortunately for most of us, our immune system is up to the task of eliminating them before they become a problem.

Cancer prevention begins at a cellular level. At some point in the evolution of cancer, cell division goes wrong. A mutated division leads to a malignant line of cells that if left unchecked can grow into a cancerous tumor. Effective cancer prevention must target this cellular level of origin.

It's important to remember that cancer screening is not a form of prevention. Early detection is helpful, but how much...

Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer.  Like other cancers, melanomas start when a particular cell or group of cells in your body begins to grow in an uncontrolled and dangerous way so they can invade surrounding tissues and potentially spread to other parts of the body.  This happens when the DNA in a cell mutates so an abnormal cancerous clone of cells are produced. Most melanomas begin in a part of the skin called the dermal-epidermal junction, which is located between the epidermis and the dermis of the skin.  As melanomas grow, they produce more cancer cells and invade...

It’s been said that if you put a quarter under the mattress every time you make love from your wedding night until your first anniversary, and then remove one every time you make love thereafter that you would never run out of quarters.

The reduction in erotic zeal and passion that normally occurs over the course of a marriage can be a point of consternation for many couples.

Are we falling out of love? Does he or she still love me as much as they once did? Am I still attractive to my partner? Have they become interested in someone else? What are other couples doing? These...

Abnormal But Healthy. Creative Use of Time

I remember when I was playing high school football, a couple of dads used to come and watch the high school team practice. We all thought that was kind of weird. Who would watch a high school practice? Didn't they have anything better to do?

Fast forward to present times. When my sons were playing high school football, the practices were packed with ernest parents watching every move.

I suppose it's an extension of our vicarious lifestyle. For many of us, we have become like Chancey Gardner in the movie "Being There";  we like to watch.

I will admit that I am nostalgic...

Can Pornography Be Part of a Healthy Relationship

Category: Healthy Living

There's nothing quite as fun and wholesome as a night at home watching movies. Get that fire going, pop-up some popcorn, then plug-in your favorite pornographic movie. See how long you can watch it until passion overwhelms you and the movie becomes simple background noise to the real thing. Pornography can be part of the tapestry of a couple’s healthy sexual life. Through the use of pornography we can safely explore our sexual interests, our turn-ons and our turn-offs. We can stretch the boundaries of our sexual relationship learning new ways to keep things alive and fresh. But what...

To Busy For Sex?

Category: Healthy Living
Posted by: Dr. Stephen Petteruti

The sad truth is we are so damn busy throughout our lives we just don't have time for sex. By the time our life's work is winding down and the time becomes available, we're too damned old to care anymore.

I can't tell you how many patients have said to me "I'm just too tired" by the end of my day to become sexually interested in their partner. After the bustle of daily living, the requirement of household chores and activities, meal preparation, perhaps dealing with business issues after dinner, studying or childcare, there's just no more fuel left to stoke the fires of passion....
